Convert empty buildings into affordable homes

Join our local campaign: Converting empty buildings into social rent homes and reduce essential costs to those on the lowest incomes.

We are currently planning a new campaign to turn unoccupied buildings in the Wirral to affordable housing.

There are so many empty buildings in the Wirral, yet over 5,000 people are stuck waiting for social housing. We want empty buildings turned into social housing. This will reduce homelessness and increase people’s disposable income as they are paying rent they can afford. When someone has a decent home that they can afford, they will have more disposable income for life’s other essentials and as a consequence be more able contribute to the local economy and broader society.

When we say affordable, we mean the same amount as someone would receive on housing benefit or on a low salary. There are too many people forced to turn to the food bank due to high private rents, lack of affordable homes to move into, paying bedroom tax as they cannot move elsewhere or stuck in temporary accommodation such BnBs and hotels. We currently have identified some buildings in Wallasey and Oxton.
