A new Community Advice Hub in Birkenhead opened on Thursday 3rd July

7th July 2025

The Community Advice Hub will host Citizens Advice Wirral, Energy Project Plus, Wirral Change, CAP Wirral and community connectors from Involve Northwest. Covering advice and support on benefits, debts, energy bills and more, people can pop in and speak to a friendly adviser to easier access the help that they need.

The hub is hosted by One Wirral CIC in the centre of Birkenhead, opposite the McDonalds on the corner of Oxton Road and Grange Road West, Birkenhead, CH41 2QJ. The hub will be open to members of the public every Thursday morning 9:30-12:30.

The opening date of the hub is Thursday 3rd July. The Wirral Mayor Cllr Brian Kenny and local councillors will be present at the opening of the hub.

Wirral Foodbank’s Community Campaigning team are trying to tackle poverty at a local level through setting this Community Advice Hub where people can drop in and receive information, advice and support on money matters.  Through speaking to people who were using the foodbank in the Wirral, they saw a need for more face-to-face services and people needing help with issues such as debts, energy bills and social security payments. These issues can often spiral and lead to financial crisis and consequently needing to use the foodbank. The hope is that by attending the hub, people can get help and advice to prevent these issues from getting worse. Offering a face-to-face drop-in service this hub makes these life changing services more visible and accessible to those who may need it the most.

The Hub is supported by a number of advice support agencies, who will be present to offer advice and support every Thursday morning.

How do we know this works? At Wirral Foodbank, there is a service called Foodbank Plus, delivered by Citizens Advice Wirral on behalf of Wirral Foodbank, offers advice and support to people who have used the foodbank and often results in people not having to return to the foodbank. Therefore, we know this approach works and now we want to have that offer to people further upstream so that they can access advice and support in a comfortable environment before it reaches crisis point.

If you are in need of any help with social security payment, debts, any money problems and live on the Wirral, please pop in. Perhaps you have received an unusually high bill that you are unsure of, your universal credit payments have changed, you have had a change in financial circumstances and don’t know where to start. This hub is your place to get free, independent, confidential, non-judgemental, help and support from trained advisers. We hope to see you soon.
